Mr Poppy!
Martin Freeman aka Mr Maddens and Marc as Mr Poppy

“The energy that children generate is just mind-blowing and I think that’s what is captured during the whole movie,” says Marc Wootton. “They say that a child laughs on average 400 times a day and an adult laughs about 14 times a day. What happened? We don’t play anymore as grown-ups. We don t have time to play because we’re working. I’m lucky to be an actor because I am paid to play.” Marc Wootton

Introduction
A heart-warming and hilarious tale of the true meaning of Christmas, NATIVITY! is directed and conceived by Debbie Isitt, produced by Nick Jones and executive produced by Joe Oppenheimer for BBC Films and Lee Thomas for Screen West Midlands. NATIVITY! will be released in the UK and Ireland by E1 Entertainment.

MARTIN FREEMAN (Hot Fuzz, Confetti, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) stars alongside ASHLEY JENSEN (Tristram Shandy, Ugly Betty, Extras), JASON WATKINS (Confetti) and MARC WOOTTON (Shirley Ghostman, Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel). Comedian ALAN CARR makes his feature film debut together with a host of winning and talented six to 12 year-olds. Well-known and much-loved actors PAM FERRIS, RICKY TOMLINSON and JOHN SESSIONS round out the cast.
Director Debbie Isitt trained as an actor before being acclaimed by The Guardian as ‘the future of British Theatre' as the writer/director of a series of award-winning black comedies staged at the Edinburgh Festival. A respected figure in the international alternative theatre community, she has toured the world with her company Snarling Beasties. More recently, Debbie has made a name for herself as a filmmaker, creating a stir with her debut feature Nasty Neighbours and going on to make the comedy feature, Confetti which was distributed by Fox Searchlight.
NATIVITY! was shot entirely on location in Coventry and Los Angeles.

SYNOPSIS
Having given up his career as a frustrated, under-achieving actor, Mr Maddens (Martin Freeman) has become a frustrated, under-achieving primary school teacher. Each Christmas, his school and that of his long-time adversary, Gordon Shakespeare (Jason Watkins) of the posh independent school up the road, compete for a 5-star review of their respective nativity plays. To no-one’s surprise, time after time, the privileged Oakmoor students thrash the underdogs at St Bernadette’s. Maddens is resigned to this. His kids are hopeless and losing is the story of his life. Since receiving a vicious review from the local drama critic (Alan Carr) for his last production, he refuses to have anything to do with the annual festive fiasco. Besides, he hates Christmas. Five years ago his girlfriend, Jennifer (Ashley Jensen), dumped him under the mistletoe and left for a new life in California.

Maddens’ headmistress (Pam Ferris), however, has plans of her own. She wants a proper Nativity in her last year before retirement, and she wants him to direct. He is still thinking of ways to wriggle out of it when he runs into Shakespeare at the garden centre. Goaded by his rival’s arrogance, Maddens makes an idle boast: not only is St Bernadette’s preparing a barnstorming Xmas Xtravaganza but their production has already attracted the attention of Hollywood! Jennifer the hotshot producer is coming back to Coventry to make a movie starring his pupils! The lie is overheard by his puppyish classroom assistant, Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton), who has no gift to distinguish truth from falsehood no matter how preposterous.

Overnight, Maddens finds himself at the centre of a perfect storm comprising the Mayor (Ricky Tomlinson), the media, a posse of pushy parents, and an army of pint-sized potential Marys and Josephs. All St Bernadette’s is floating on a cloud of stardust and the children are bursting with Christmas spirit.

But can Maddens possibly persuade Jennifer to bring Hollywood to Coventry and make their dreams come true or will his tangle of lies finally catch him out?

***UPDATED***
FAQ About Time Travel will be available on
SKY BOX OFFICE (and HD) from Monday 14 September 2009

HUGE
thanks to Alice at DnA PR for this FAQ About Time Travel DVD release news....
FAQ About Time Travel
On DVD 7 September 2009

“Shaun of the Dead Meets Dr Who” (Front)
“So Funny You’ll Want To Go Back In Time And See It Again” (Sunday Express)

Ray (Chris O’Dowd – The IT Crowd) is obsessed with time travel and all things sci-fi, Toby (Marc Wootton – Confetti) is a film nerd with ambition but absolutely no talent and their mate Pete (Dean Lennox Kelly – Shameless) is a sarcastic cynic who prefers darts to Darth Vader.

As usual the boys are in the pub… But this time, a funny thing happens on the way to the bar - Ray is approached by Cassie (Anna Faris – Scary Movie, The House Bunny), a beautiful girl who claims to be a time traveller. Meanwhile Pete stumbles through a rip in the time space continuum in the gents… Obviously. And so the three bunglers quickly realise there’s going to be more to their evening than peanuts and the pub quiz.

This self-referential Brit-flick is a comic frolic through the space time continuum, and asks, if not completely answering, all of the questions you ever had about time travel but never had the time to ask. Parallel Universes? Paradox arcs? Grandfather theory? And most importantly, will they get back in time for last orders...? FAQ About Time Travel is a MUST for fans of Brit Comedy.

"FAQ About Time Travel pair Marc Wootton and Dean Lennox Kelly have said that they were not allowed "anywhere near" the film's star Anna Faris.

Speaking to DS about the Brit comedy, Wootton joked: "I wasn't allowed to get anywhere near her. I've got orders to be restrained."

Kelly remarked of the US actress: "You know in E.T. when they have that wind tunnel at the end? She used to have one of those all the way to the set."

The former Shameless star added: "When Chris O'Dowd went to kiss her, which fair enough you would freak, she had a lip double."

"Dean wore a blonde wig, in that very last scene where they snog it's Dean!" said Wootton.

FAQ About Time Travel, which centres on three friends who discover a leak in the space time continuum at their local pub, is out in cinemas this Friday." From: digital spy

BRAVE YOUNG MEN - UPDATES - 22 MARCH 2009 BBC3 11.15PM

A HUGE thanks to all at Baby Cow Productions for these amazing photos and information

BBC3

Sunday March 22nd – 11.15pm

Written by Tom Basden and Sam Leifer

OWEN and JAMIE, played by Marc Wootton and Tom Basden are a pair of nobodies who prevent global disasters with the help of a time-transient civil servant.

OWEN MALLOY, caretaker at the local school, is approached by a shadowy figure named MELVIN (Patrick Barlow) while locking up one day. MELVIN appoints him ‘Caretaker of the World, Brighton and Hove Division.’ But is this MELVIN really a civil servant from the future or just a mad tramp?

After some haggling over a scooter, JAMIE agrees to be OWEN’S sidekick and so their mission begins: This involves the confiscation of some homebrewed beer which, according to MELVIN, will become contaminated in 2013. Curiously MELVIN needs it brought to him in order to ‘process’ it.

A British spin on the U.S time travelling saga, Quantum Leap.

Directed by Sam Leifer, (Stuck, Where Are The Joneses,) Produced by Teddy Leifer, Executive Producers Henry Normal, Alison MacPhail and Simon Lupton (BBC). Brave Young Men is a Baby Cow Production (Gavin and Stacey, Nighty Night, The Mighty Boosh) for BBC 3

From BABY COW: "Owen (Marc Wootton) and Jamie (Tom Basden) are a pair of average twenty-somethings with the not-so-average responsibility of saving the world. While locking up school one day, Owen Malloy is approached by Melvin, a time-transient civil servant from the future, and offered the position of 'Caretaker Of The World And All It's Population'. All global disasters have relatively small initial triggers. Should he accept, Owen would be given details of these triggers and deal with them as and when they arise. He just needs a sidekick. His best friend Jamie, though reluctant at first, eventually accepts the position on the promise of Owen's scooter and so their adventures begin..."

ABOUT FAQ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL
Gareth Carrivick was sent the script for FAQ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL by his agent,
whom he shares with the writer Jamie Mathieson. Carrivick, an award winning television director, was looking to make his directorial debut, and Mathieson, a successful stand-up comic, had written a script which seemed ideally suited to Carrivick’s strengths, with his knowledge and experience of directing acclaimed comedy. As Gareth Carrivick says, “I love making comedy, I have spent the best part of 20 years doing so, and it is in my opinion the most difficult genre to get right and the easiest to get wrong, but at the same time it is also fantastically rewarding to hear an audience laugh and to know that you have been a part of that process. It’s why I direct and it why I wanted to make this film.” Jamie Mathieson, himself a self-confessed geek with a love of all things sci-fi, from comics and books, to television and films, initial idea was if you had a guy who was obsessed with time travel, and he was visited by someone from the future, that no one would believe him. This idea formed the starting point of the original screenplay. FAQ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL with it’s many subtle references to other time travel films and books will appeal to aficionado’s who will enjoy spotting the references, it has the geek element as Mathieson says. But these images and icons within the film are sophisticated and understated, in the background, and not designed to distract or interrupt the enjoyment for the regular audience goer, but will give added interest to the geek amongst them. Neil Peplow and Justin Smith, with their successful track record of producing British films, read the script and were instantly attracted to the humour within the material. Together with Carrivick and Mathieson, they spent a year developing the script. Neil Peplow summarises the basic premise of the sci-fi comedy, with all its complicated twists and turns, as “A story about three guys who go to their local pub and find there is a slip in the space time continuum in the gent’s toilet, and they can travel backwards and forwards in time but only to the same toilet, and it is about how they react to this ridiculous situation they find themselves in.” FAQ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL is set apart from other time travel movies in so much as there is no visible future technology, and no fancy visuals to indicate time travel. And most of the events of the film take place in the same building in a limited number of areas; the main bar of the pub, the snug and the toilets. Taking this in to consideration the film asks of the audience exactly how far can you fold the same sequence of events before losing narrative coherence? The answer, it turns out, is surprisingly far. To bring this story to life on the big screen, Peplow, Smith, Carrivick and Mathieson needed to find their perfect trio. This led to a further six months of intensive casting to find the actors to play Ray, Toby and Pete. As Justin Smith says, “We knew who the characters were as they were clearly defined in the script, and we wanted to find the right actors, so we did an exhaustive search for the roles, and we were lucky enough to find exactly the right people who sparked off one another.” After three full read throughs with actors, but never the combination that are in the film, Chris O’Dowd, Marc Wootton and Dean Lennox Kelly were brought together to see if they had the all important chemistry required to bring the script to life before a final decision could be made. As Carrivick recalls, “We spent the day in a pub and shot some key scenes from the film. They hadn’t ever worked together before, and it worked fantastically well, the chemistry you see in the final film is one that was there from the beginning.” It had to be the right combination for the humour to work, much of which comes from male banter, teasing back and forth, for the audience to believe the way the characters, with their individual traits, respond to the situation they are in, even though it is extraordinary. There is no tardis and no spaceship, instead our trio of mates have a toilet from which they can move backwards or forwards in time. This presents them with the greatest challenge, that of being in one environment, the pub, for the majority of the time with multiple versions of themselves, knowing they cannot break the principal rule of time travel; never touch, speak or bump in to other versions of yourself. To add to the chaos and confusion in the story, there was the character of Cassie to cast, the time traveller Ray falls for. This pivotal role was one which the director, writer and producers all unanimously agreed the American actress Anna Faris would be perfect for. They were delighted when Anna read the script and accepted their offer to come on board. For Anna Faris the attraction to the project was instantaneous, as she explains, “The script is distinctly British, it is funny and witty, and encapsulates everything about popular culture and pub culture that is current right now”.

F.A.Q.A.T.T. OFFICIAL TRAILER, CHARACTER AND WRITER NOTES

thank you to Lionsgate

THE CHARACTERS

TOBY (Marc Wootton)
Toby is thirty-something, fat and with little regard for personal hygiene, and is Ray’s best mate. He is just as nerdy as Ray in many ways. Quite cocky and self deluded, Toby thirsts for fame. He dreams of writing and directing his own film and is constantly pitching terrible film outlines to anyone who will listen. His ambitions, however, far exceed his talent, a fact which everyone is well aware of apart from him. He has been giving out flyers for a living while he ‘polishes his script’ and will probably still be giving out flyers for some time.
RAY (Chris O’Dowd)
Thirty-something Ray is the acceptable face of geekdom, and the unlikely hero of
FAQ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL. Nerdy but stubbornly proud of it, he’s obsessed with
time travel and science fiction. He is a bit of a dreamer, with his nose constantly in fat sci fi novels. He has a tendency to live in vivid fantasy worlds, a fact which has cost him several jobs and relationships. However, when it comes to the crunch, he has a cool head in a crisis. His favourite Star Wars character is probably Han Solo.
PETE (Dean Lennox Kelly)
Twenty-something Pete is cynical and working class to the core. He thinks that
science fiction is for kids or idiots and takes pleasure in tormenting Toby and Ray for their nerdy interests. He likes a drink and a smoke, and believes in screwing the
system for all he can. He does not believe in ghosts, UFO’s or God and thinks that
belief in any of the above is a sign of stupidity. Pete views his current job of giving out flyers as an easy little earner, with the added perk of free (stolen) burgers. He is also known for being a bit tight with his money.
CASSIE (Anna Faris)
Cassie is a beautiful twenty-something time traveller whose bones have been
replaced with polymer composite, which makes her a time machine. She repairs
time leaks such as the one Pete finds in the gent’s toilets in the pub. She has a
serious crush on Ray, or ‘Ray the Great’ as he is known in the future for the books he has written on time travel, of which Ray is not aware of given he is living in the
present.
MILLIE (Meredith MacNeill)
Millie is an attractive woman who is an Editor (also known as Casual Adjust). She
time travels in order to kill people at their finest hour, to change the course of history, resulting in future generations not being born and chaos theory on a huge scale. Her time machine has a built in armament system which makes her extremely dangerous.

JAMIE MATHIESON (Writer)
Jamie Mathieson, an experienced stand-up, wrote FAQ ABOUT TIME TRAVEL as
his first feature script. He has recently turned his back on the stage to become a full
time writer, and has been working on the screenplay Jamie Frankel is a Great Shag
for DNA Films. His other work includes an adaptation of the novel The Looking Glass Wars, and a six part comedy thriller Romily Speaks which has been optioned by the BBC.
Mathieson’s writing for television includes an episode of My Parents are Aliens for
Granada, in addition to sketches for Velvet Soup for BBC Scotland. He has also
written monologues for Family Fortunes and Catchphrase for Carlton Television.
